Barracloughs of Woldale
James Barraclough, bachelor, of Woldale (probably one of the sons of Robert Barraclough of Hollingreave), married Barbara Berry, spinster,
in September, 1729, and by her had Joseph, baptised in 1730; Sarah, baptised in 1732, married Benjamin Bailey of Almondbury parish in 1751.
James was baptised in 1733; Ann bapt. 1735; Barbara bapt. 1737, died 1774; Hannah bapt. 1740 married Abel Cartwright in 1764; Joshua; Jonas;
Barbara baptised in 1747, married in 1770, William Dearnley, son of Samuel Dearnley of Woldale. Abraham was baptised in 1749.
The eldest son, Joseph Barraclough, baptised in 1730, married Betty Askwith in January, 1763... Joseph Barraclough of Woldale was buried in
February, 1772.
Joshua Barraclough, son of James, was married in September, 1769, to Sarah Bray, daughter of Arthur Bray of Woldale. Thomas Firth was one of
the witnesses at this marriage....
Jonas Barraclough, son of James, married in October, 1765, Tabitha Cartwright, daughter of Abel Cartwright of Woldale; present at their
marriage were Benjamin Bailey and Joshua Barraclough....
Abraham Barraclough, son of James, baptised in 1749, married Lenox Booth of Shepley in August, 1776; present at this marriage were Richard
Turner, junr, and Benjamin Bailey... Lenox, wife of Abraham Barraclough, was buried in October, 1780. He married, secondly, Ruth Smith of
Shepley in December 1781. Ruth, widow of Abraham Barraclough of Woldale, was buried in May, 1837, aged 77.

The only James Barraclough baptism record found in Kirkburton records is the following (from Francis Anne Collins book):
"August 1708 Jonas, son of Anne Barraclough of Shepley and Joshua Earnshaw (gone for a soldier) bapt. the 6th day."
From looking at the original, it's pretty clear that the second letter of the name is an "a" not an "o" so it looks a lot more like
James than Jonas to me. The "gone for a soldier" text isn't readable online and it looks more like "being the reputed father" to me.
James and Barbara had children named Anne and Joshua, and Barbara was also illegitimate, so it seems likely that this is the right
James Barraclough, Shepley is around 4 miles from Wooldale which is a bit far, but not out of the realm of possibility. Also, in October,
1709, the following baptism is listed "A crisom child of Joshua Earnshaw of Woodale buried the 5th day". It's likely this is the
same Joshua Earnshaw, though it's not clear who the mother is (could be Anne Barraclough).
