Notes |
- From "Captain Michale Pierce Including One Line of Descent" Helligso, 1981:
"Michael Peirce was born in Higham, Kent, England, c. 1615, and appears to have been the son of Azrikam Pierce and his wife, Martha, and grandson of Antres' Lascelle Pierce.
One of Michale's brothers, whose name was William, was a great sea captain. Up to 1640, William crossed the ocean oftener than any other man then living...
John Pierce, the Patentee, is said to have been another brother (or perhaps and uncle of Michael Pierce. John Pierce was a leader of the Merchant Adventurers and owned the Plymouth Colony patent, also known as "Mr. Pierce's Company," dated 12 Feb 1620. (Some records say he owned the Mayflower also.) ...
Michael Peirce, our immigrant ancestor, appears to have been a resident of Scituate, MA, having purchased land in the Conihasset in 1647. He was interested in public affairs and served his community in various capacities including juryman in 1671 and 1673. In 1673, he was chosen Ensigne by the Court in preparation for a was with the Dutch in New York.
His first wife was Persis Eames, daughter of Anthony Eames; she died in 1662 and he married Mrs. Annah James.
Michael Pierce was appointed Captain of a company raised in the Spring of 1675-6 to fight the Indians (in King Phillip's War). Before he marched out to fight, he wrote his will which is dated January, 1675."
Michael and his company were killed in the "Michael Pierce Fight" in Rhode Island, a famous battle in King Phillip's War.
Michale Pierce's will makes his wife executrix, and leaves money to children Benjamin, Abigail Holbrook, Elizabeth, Sarah, Anna, Mary Holbrook, Abiah, Ruth and Peirsis, also grandchildren Elizabeth Holbrook and Abigail Holbrook. He asks his friends "Cornet Robert Stetson and Isaac ____ and my brother Mark Eames and my brother Charles Stockbridge overseers"
