Notes |
- From "Genealogies of the Early Families of Weymouth, MA" Chamberlain:
"Thomas Holbrook, his wife Jan, their sons John, aged 11 years, Thomas, aged 10 years, and daughters, Anne, aged 5 years, and Elizabeth, aged 1 year, sailed from Weymouth on of near 20 Mar. 1634-35 with Rev. Joseph Hull's Company. He came from Broadway, Somersetshire, Eng.
Thomas Holbrook, aged 77 years or thereabouts, deposed that he came to New England with Mr. Hull's Company in 1635, and that they came ashore at Dorchester, 7 June, 1635; and that they went to Dorchester and the Company went to a place now called Weymouth, and built a house there, etc., sworn to in court, 2 Nov. 1666. (Suffolk Court Files, 815).
It is apparent that he was born near 1589 and that he was married to Jane ___, perhaps Kingman near 1617. He died at Weymouth shortly before 10 Mar. 1677. There is a statement that his wife was Jane Kingman, born near 1600, but no authentic record of this fact has been found by the compiler.
He was made a freeman of Massachussets Bay Colony, May, 1645; townsman (selectman), 1645, 1646, 1651, 1652, and 1654. Ten acres were granted to him in the First Division and thirty acres in the Second Division, 14 Dec. 1663.
...he made his will 31 Dec. 1668, bequeathing unto his wife Jane, his sons John Holbrooke, William Holbrook and Thomas Holbrook, and unto his daughters Anne Rennolds, Elizabeth Hatch, and Jane Drake and unto his grandchildren John Holbrook, Peter Holbrook and William Holbrook, and to all of his grandchildern that shall be living at his wife Jane's death, his property...."
From "Captain Michale Pierce Including One Line of Descent" Helligso, 1981:
"Thomas Holbrook was b. in England c. 1593-4 and d. between 13 Dec. 1673 & 24 April 1677. Weaver Genealogy states he married Jane Powyes at Glastonbury Co., Somerset, Eng. Setp. 1616. She may have been Jane Tawyer (a form of Thayer). A possible Jeanne Thayer (daughter of Richard) was baptized Jan. 1592-3 at Thornbury Co., Gloucester, Eng."
