"Mary A Wattenburger died at the home of her son J C Wattenburger of Portland Sept 26, after an illness of 24 days.
Mary Ann Hatcher was b. in Knoxville, TN, May 25, 1837 being at the time of her death 82 years, 4 months, and a day old. She was married in March 1857 to Jacob H Wattenburger. To their union 10 children were born, three of whom died in infancy, while Mary Ellen, wife of J T Ayers died in Heppner, OR Oct 10, 1917.
The following children survive her: Eliza Pinkerton of Athena, W J Wattenburger of Echo, S W of Lake Co., CA, J C of Portland; A E & Mrs E O Neill, both of Butter Creek. Besides these she leaves two sisters in MO and 31 living grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The deceased was a pioneer of OR, having crossed the plains in 1862 by an ox team. She was a member of the United Brethren Church for many years.
The funeral was held from the First Christian Church in this city on Teusday afternoon and buriel was made in the Masonic Cemetery. John T Hoskins of Echo conducted the funeral services."

Mrs. Mary Wattenburger, who died in this city Friday, was one of the pioneers of Morrow county and was well known to many persons in Eastern Oregon. Mrs. Wattenburger was born in Tennessee May 25, 1837, and came to OR over 40 years ago. She is survived by the following children: W.J and A.E Wattenburger of Echo, OR; S.W. Wattenburger, Lakeport; Mrs. O.E.Neil of Heppner; Mrs. Eliza Pinkerton, Athena, OR and J.C. Wattenburger of Portland. The body will be forwarded to Heppner by Miller & Tracey and funeral services will be held there Monday,
