"Jacob Harmon Wattenburger, of Holland descent, born in Tenn, June 9, 1840. m. Mary Ann Hatcher, b. in Knoxville, TN, 5/25/1837.
First home in MO until 1862.
1862 - crossed plains in covered wagon to Lake Co, CA. Later went to MO and back by early train.
Son - Jacob Ceymore: born 8/8/1868
1876 - family with six children (Sarah and Nancy had died) moved from Lake County CA to Centerville, OR (later called Athena).
1880-1893 - settled on homestead west of Butter Creek
Later - Mary Ann establised home on Butter Creek
Jacob and Mary Wattenburger first settled near Sacrament, CA upon arrival from MO. Ad Wattenburger and third man owned mine near Sacramento.
Parents of Jacob Wattenburger: Ad Wattenburger, wife and six children in first (?) caravan to West in 1862.
Jacob H died Nov 1922 at Echo Oregon.
Mary Ann died 9/25/1919 in Portland and is buried ap Heppner OR."

"Jacob H and Mary Ann moved when children and their families from TN to MO and were married in MO.
1862: crossed plains to territory of Nevada, at Austin and were in the mining business there for two years.
1864 or 65: they moved to Lake Co, CA, still in moning.
1879: moved to OR, spent 18 months looking for home. Established on ranch in Butter Creek. Grew wheat for cereal. Lived here 28 years, then moved to Echo.
Jacob Harmon married at 17. He was exactly 20 years older than his son, William J.
Member of Methodist Episcopal Church Society; Mary Ann was member of the United Brethren Church
Son William J Wattenburger, at 21 filed for homestead in Morrow Co. Lived there for 7 years, then moved to rented ranch on Butter Creek, then 320 acres. He was one of the largest landowners in Eastern OR, owning 1000 acres of farmland in Morrow and Umitilla Cos all in one body."

Four Residents of Umatilla County Called by Death
Pendleton, Nov. 21 -- Four deaths occurred here Sunday and Monday, including one well known pioneer of the county, J. H. Wattenberger, a resident of Echo since 1879. He was 82 years of age. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eliza Pinkerton of Portland and Mrs. Ed Neal of Echo, and by four sons, W.J. Wattenberger, A.E. Wattenberger, F.W. Wattenberger, and J.C. Wattenberger, all of Echo.

Have Seven Living Children and Now Ask for Divorce
Jacob H. Wattenberger today filed action for divorce from Nancy A. Wattenberger, whom he took as his wife nearly hald a century ago. According to the complaint filed in the state circuit court this afternoon the Wattenbergers were married in Sullivan county, MO, March 19, 1857 and have living seven children, all of whom have reached majority.
The action is on the ground of desertion, it being charged that the wife left her aged husband more than a year ago. The divorce was filed by Peter West.

J.H. Wattenberger and Clara Davy of Echo who secured a license to marry Teusday afternoon were married that evening at the home of Rev. J.T. Hoskins on Echo.
