I finally wrote off to
Raleigh, NC library to obtain Sarah Thomas Salter will dated August 16, 1797 in
Bladen County, NC (which is now Jones County, NC or maybe vice versus).
She listed her brothers George Thomas, John Thomas, William Thomas, and Jonathan
Thomas. She then listed her sisters: Elizabeth Purnell, Mary Crowson,
Susannah Russ, and Nancy McCulloch. My problem with this will of Sarah's
and the will of Jordan Thomas is that Jordan did not list his daughter's last
names, but only mentioned "Nancy, Mary, Susanna and did not say anything
about Sarah or Elizabeth. It is a fact that Nancy Thomas, daughter of
Jordan Thomas married Green Hill, who she lived with for the rest of her life
and had many children. However, the Nancy Thomas in Sarah Thomas' will
married John McCulloch and had many children. Thus, as bad as I hate to
change things, I think the evidence, which I have been after all along
concerning Mary Crowson and her parents--------is that her parents are the same
parents as her sister Sarah Thomas Salter, who mentioned Mary in her
will. THOSE PARENTS ARE GEORGE THOMAS AND JANE JOHNSTON. George was
born 1735 in Bladen County, NC and died April 10, 1796 in Bladen County,
NC. Jane Johnston was born 1725 and died in 1770. They were married
about 1755 in North Carolina. If anyone has information about this family
please contact me. I would like to confirm my findings with others.
