Malden Families, pg. 431
Thomas Knower of London, a clothier, appears as an inhabitant of Charlestown in 1630. He was set in the bilboes of Charlestown, 8 Apr. 1632. Savage supposes that he returned to England and brought his family in the "Abigail" in July 1635. At least, one Thomas Knower, age 33 and Noel Knower, age 29, and Sarah Knower, age 17, were among the passengers to be transported to New England, 17 july 1635 in the "Abigail". (Hotten's Original Lists, 92). In his "Planters of the Commonwealth",pg. 75, Banks says, he came from London and settled in
Charlestown. Gov. Winthrop in his journal says that "One Knore of Charlestown, coming down Mistick in a small boat laden with wood was found (dead) in it", Nov. 1641. (pg. 52). The inventory, taken 19 Nov. 1641, mentions his two bibles, 20 acres above the ponds, 4 acres within the neck and 5 acres near Bunker's farm. The inventory calls him Thomas "Knocker" and names his brother George "Knocker". (Register, 2:80).
