Dea. Thomas Lynde came from Dunstable, County of Bedford, England, to Charlestown in 1634. The NOTARIAL RECORDS of William Aspinwall, p. 119, show that he received, 8 Oct. 1633, of Thomas Lynd of Dunstable, county of Bedford, yeoman, and Margaret, his wife, late the wife and executrix of the last will of Henry Jordan, late citizen and cutler of London, deceased, 14lb. 10s. 10d. for the use of Henry, son and orphan of the said Henry Jordan. On 30 Dec. 1647, Thomas Lynde of Charlestown, guardian of Henry Jordan, constituted John Allen of Charlestown his attorney to ask of the Chamberlain of the City of London, 40lb. paid to the Chamber by Margaret Jordan, 15 May 1632, and
13lb., 10s. 10d. paid to the Chamber, 8 Oct. 1635 by Thomas Lynde, her husband for the use of Henry, son of Henry Jordan, late citizen and cutler of London, deceased. (Aspinwall Notorial Records, 119, 120).
Thomas Lynde was born in England in Jan. 1593/4, and died in Malden, 30 Dec. 1671. He was a maltster, and with his wife Margaret was admitted to the Charlestown Church, 4 Feb. 1634/5. He married first, in England, a woman whose name is unknown. He married (2) Margaret Jordan, widow of Henry Jordan. She died in Malden, 23 Aug. 1662. He married (3), 6 Dec. 1665, Rebecca Trerice, who was admitted to the Charlestown Church, 12 Feb. 1681/2. She died in Malden, 8 Dec.
1688.
Thomas Lynde of Malden made his will, 21 Dec. 1671, which was proved 2 Feb. 1671/2. He devised to his wife Rebecca, to his son Joseph, to his son Samuel, and to his son Thomas, and to the preaching Elder or Elders in Malden two cow commons. He had five acres in the first division of Mystic Side (Now Malden) in 1633/4. and 35 acres above the ponds, 23 Apr. 1638. (Corey, 61 and 66). On 26 Aug. 1639, he was allowed land at Mt. Prospect for the land formerly granted to him. Mt. Prospect was another name for "Wayte's " Mount. He lived on the North side of Wayte's Mount, near the entrance to Forest Dale Cemetery, and his sons and grandsons owned large tracts of land reaching into Melrose. He was deacon of the First Church of Malden. It seems probable that his first wife was named Anna ________. The parish registers of Dunstable, Bedfordshire, contain the following items:
