  • Notes
    • From "Genealogical Gleanings in England", NEHGR, V49, p264:
Edward Sprague of Upway, Dorset, fuller, 6 June 1614, proved 13 October 1614. My body to be burind within the churchyard. To the parish church of Upway ten shillings. To the poor ten shillings. To Ralph Sprague my eldest son one of the oldest pair of Shears in my shop and one lessor pair called the "quarrell." To my eldest daughter Alice Sprague fifty poinds. To Edward, my second son, two pairs of shears and twenty pounds. To Richard, my third son twenty pounds at one and twenty years of age. To Christopher, my fourth son, twenty pounds at one and twenty. To William, my youngest son, twenty pounds at one and twenty. All the rest of my goods etc. to Christian Sprogue my wife, whom I do make my whole executrix. And I do appoint Herny Sanvoyes (Qu. Samwayes?) and William Bryer overseers.
Wit: John Bishoppe and John Taylor (by mark).

      From "Great Migration Begins":
Information on the English ancestry of the Sprague brothers, along with some corrections, were published in 1978 by D.L. Kent and in 1980 by Ruth Sprague Dowty [NEHGR 132:51-53, 134:194-198]. Kent shows that Edward Sprague, father of the immigrants, was not son of a Tristram Sprague; Dowty reinforces this conclusion, and adds other documents which help to narrow down the year of birth of Ralph Sprague. It also disputes the case for Christian being a Holland
