      My beloved wife, Sarah Hatcher, the plantation whereon I now dwell as far as Harrys Branch during her widowhood. If she marries or dies then if the child that she is with now should be a boy and lives, at her marrying or dying the said to be his forever, and if it should be a girl then the plantation to be my son Rheubin's. Likewise another piece of land from Furgerson's corner white oak a straight line with Turgerson's (Ferguson) line down to Aquillia Greer's line I bequeath in the same manner as my plantation above mentioned. I lend to my beloved wife Sarah Hatcher negro Effie during my wife's life, and at her decease the said Effee and her increase to be equally divided amongst my children. I bequeath unto my said beloved wife the mare, colt and side saddle which did formerly belong to her. Likewise her choice of three head of cattle, three head of sheep, her choice of one feather bed and furniture, two pewter dishes and two pewter plates, one large poplar chest, two small trunks, one gallon jug, two quart bottles and one fourth part of my crop of grain. Likewise all my flax and cotton, four walnut chairs and poplar table, two earthen plates and three knives and forks, one piece of new cloth of 12 yards to clothe my children and I leave in her care one large looking glass and one small feather bed for my daughter Lucey. To my beloved wife Sarah Hatcher a third part of my hogs, one middle sized pot and hooks, one good falling ax, two of the best weeking hoes, one brubbing hoe, a large washing tub, one small plough, one large side of leather, and a small skin, one large powdering tub, leather for two pair of shoes, "all my har Specia Money", all the yarn and thread that is spun in the house and cotton that is spun.

      To my son, Elijah Hatcher, 125 acres of land whereon he now dwells.

      To my son, Edward Hatcher, all the land above Harrys Branch excepting what is above mentioned to my beloved wife, but if the child that my wife is with should be a boy then this said mentioned land is to be equally divided between my said son Edward and Rheuben, but if a girl then this nominated land above the branch to continue my son Edward's as mentioned. Likewise one black mare with three white feet branded EH.

      To my son, Josiah Hatcher, all the land below Harrys Branch.

      To my son, William Hatcher, one entry of land laying beyond the road to be surveyed for him by the executors.

      To my two daughters, Rhodey and Elizabeth Hatcher, one choice feather bed and furniture.

      I bequeth two mares called Poll and Fancy to be equally divided between all my children that I have gave horse kind to.

      The money due to me from Richard Booth for the mare called Nell I desire to be used to pay my taxes with.

      The 250 acres of land of mine joining Joseph Frith, James Greer and John Payne may be sold to the best advantage and the money thereof to be used for the schooling and "bring up" of my four youngest children, William, Rhodey, Elizabeth and Lucy Hatcher.

      All the rest of my estate real and personal excepting what is above mentioned be equally divided between my son Farley Hatcher and the rest of my children.

      Conformable to an order of the county court of Bedford to us directed, we have sold the eight slaves belonging to the estate of Edward Hatcher Decd being that part of the estate of said Decd alloted to his widow, and devided the proceeds amongst his distributees.
